Most marketing teams monitor competitors the same way: someone checks a competitor's homepage when a deal is lost, someone else notices a pricing change after a customer mentions it, someone periodically browses G2 for new reviews. The signal arrives, but it arrives too late to be actionable. By the time a competitor's repositioning is visible enough to be noticed reactively, the positioning has already had several months to shape buyer perception.

The gap between reactive and systematic competitor monitoring is not a resource gap. It is a workflow gap. Teams that monitor well do not have more time or more staff. They have a system that captures signals continuously and delivers them to decisions rather than to inboxes where they get read once and forgotten.

3. A regular review cadence

Product roadmap input. Marketing is often the first to see competitive product changes — new features, new integrations, new use cases — because they are monitoring the website and positioning.
